Pretty bad
By Amazon Customer
I bought this book because I know John Campea from Movie Talk and usually enjoy his work. Unfortunately, this book is an exception. It's pretty bad!
There are several problems with the book. Mainly, the writing isn't that good. Lots of one word sentences, one sentence paragraphs and even one word paragraphs. No carefully crafted sentences that accurately convey distinct and subtle nuances. Instead it seems to me that most of book reads like a monotonous stream of consciousness like this: "He didn't know what to do. Or did he? Maybe. And yet... Did he know? Perhaps".
Also the characters are one-dimensional and not very interesting. The attempt to portray Petros as the main protagonist falls flat. In the end Justinian felt more like the main character to me, simply because he is present in most of the story arcs. But even the character of Justinian never really comes to live.
I will give the book 2 stars instead of 1 star, because there were a few things in it quite enjoyed: I liked the opening chapter. The whole story of the dragons awakening and coming into their own I thought was somewhat interesting. Also the string of mysterious murders peaked my curiousity, though its eventual resolution in a very predictable plot twist was very unsatisfying and badly executed.
All this leaves me wondering what kind of editing, if any, this book received. This book should not have been published in its present form and clearly should have been completely rewritten. I believe a critical editor would have seen to that.

this book is not good. The story is ill-conceived and almost non-existent
By Haydn Cook
I am a huge fan of Campea's - was devastated I won't get to see him every day on Movie Talk anymore. But, man, this book is not good. The story is ill-conceived and almost non-existent, and it is very poorly-written. In the first 30 pages alone, I found four spelling errors, and twice as many grammatical mistakes. Not to mention sentences that just didn't make sense. (after that, I stopped counting).
MovieTalk fans squeal daily about hypocracy, but blind Campea fans rating this a 5/5 (one reviewer even saying it's better than Lord of the Rings), when they themselves hate when Marvel fans crap on a product because it's DC, or hate when critics praise Del Toro, even when he makes misguided s*** like Crimson Peak, are doing the same now.
I was truly disappointed when I read it. I'm from Australia and it cost me $50 to have the book shipped to me. Not even close to being worth it.
I hope John doesn't take the truly nasty reviews to heart, but I also hope he doesn't just listen to the fan worship, either. Here's hoping he improves when he attempts his second book.

Needless description and massive let down
By Jesse Abundis
This by far is a very very poor book altogether. Too many pointless descriptions, and just a very long winded road to no where.
This book needed to be rethought and rewritten. This is a book that is pushed more on YouTube Celeb fame, rather than actual good writing. And will continue to carry itself through the rankings on just that. Which in turn is sad to the other greater indie authors who have poured their lives, and fought to get where self-publishing is today.
But let the fans of Campea rave, in the end this book is what it is, to the person who bought it.
