"An important contribution to the sociological and social service literature. It is also a well-documented work that, with little jargon, neatly blends theoretical and applied sociology with historical description. Salvation City provides the reader with a penetrating analysis of the problematic relationship between local communities and people in need of vital services." - Jerome Krase, Emeritus and Murray Koppelman Professor, Brooklyn College, The City University of New York

Not in my backyard!
By Valjean
This book looks at the relationships between halfway houses and communities and is a MUST read if the government is trying to place a halfway house near your home! There are several interviews here with both ex-convicts and residents of communities that are affected.
The authors pose the existential question of whether or not offender rehabilitation is compatable with community safety. The personal stories of rehabilitation and recovery are compelling, but I am still not sold on the idea that halfway houses are a "good idea" for any neighborhood.
Kilburn and Costanza do a good job of staying neutral and scientific. They warn of the dangers of halfway houses to neighborhood safety, but constantly remind the reader that the possibility of rehabilitation is a lofty and worthy ideal.

Opens up a door to see beyond
By Leocadio Villarreal
Rehabilitation is the objective; contamination of bad habits and low morals to communities is the counter part of the balance you must evaluate in order to help you decide on the establishment of a "halfway house" in your back yard, in risk of having one of your own family members infected by the behaviors of the inhabitants of the "halfway house."
I personally know of individuals that can't conceive any other way of doing things but by means of low and twisted channels courses and some others that are sitting there to be recovered back to society.
This MUST read book opens up a panorama on a scientific professional way that besides of giving good analogy comparative cases helps you perceive a perspective beyond the "halfway houses" to what it happens on the world today.
