The best triathlon training book

I bought many books last year (2012) since my wife told me that she wanted to do a full triathlon race this year (2013). Before 2013, her races are limited to few marathons, 50Ks, and 1 double marathon. She has never done any real triathlon race - meaning no swim and bike background. Her marathon PR was 3:24 - so now you know her athletic ability to judge how the training turned out to be.

In addition, I bought some biking related books and other swimming related books.
If you are going to buy just one book, I recommend "Your Best Triathlon" above anything else - that is if you are going to use the heart zone, pace zone, and power zone related training. If you aren't interested in using any of those, you can just use Matth Fitzgerald's Essential Week-by-Week, but I found it not very much helping if you are serious about the training. My wife told me that she wanted to finish her first full triathlon race within 12 hours.
I believe that "Your Best Triathlon" is a much better book than the classic, "the Triathlete's Training Bible" by the same author. It pretty much explains everything you need to know along with a sample workout plan that you can use... providing you know your zone, etc. I used the book as the foundation for the training plan, then changed a bit here and there as needed.
Here are the results:
Olympic Triathlon in May (her first open water): 2:59:39 - a bad race... it was a cold day and she wasn't ready for a cold water swim, a cold bike ride, and a cold run....
Sprint Triathlon in June: 1:46:48
1/3 distance Triathlon: 3:17:29 - she took 2nd place overall female.
Ironman Half in July: 5:17:19 - she took 7 in her age group, 60 in female, and 310 in overall.
Full Rev3 in September: 11:15:56 - She took 1st in her age group - (there were 2 female in her age group faster than she was, but they took 2nd and 3rd overall female), 5th in female overall.
Here is the stat on her full-tri:
Swim: 1:13:59
Bike: 6:07:44
Run: 3:42:24
I am going to use this book again next year to improve her time. My recommendation for biking book is Training and Racing with a Power Meter by Hunter Allen.

This is simply a must have for anyone wishing to train seriously! Your provided with sample training sessions for various distances. It makes training at the correct intensity and volume simple!

Good information and easy to follow training plans

This is a good addition to Friel's Training Bible. It actually includes training plans, which is nice, and helps the reader focus on the individual's goals, not only for the year, or race...but also to focus on the goal of each training session.
