Great for beginners

This is an awesome piece of work. I haven't finished reading it yet. These 763 pages cover ONLY chosen 100 hymes out of 1028! It has Sanskrit printing as well as sanskrit-in-english-alphabets along with meaning in English. It is not just a translation, it has about 60pages long introduction to warm you up with the concepts, myths and history in a nutshell.

I'm so glad to read the oldest script in the human history, estimating to be over 10000 (ten thousand) years old. I know, a million thanks to late Sham Ghosh is too less.

A brilliant translation - at last!

RGVEDA for the Layman
Translated with Commentary by Shyam Ghosh

This fresh translation of the RIG Veda was published in 2002. The translator sadly died in the year 2000 or I would have sent him my personal THANK YOU and touched his feet (a sweet Hindu custom of respect).

For years now, there has been only one translation of the Rig Veda available to most of us who do not read Sanskrit. Although I remain grateful for any translation, over the years as I came to understand more and more of the metaphysics of Hinduism, it occurred to me that perhaps the translator simply did not quite fully understand the subtle metaphysical depths of the text and that a great deal of the inner meaning must have been lost through a lack of spiritual knowledge.

For many years now most westerners have been completely bewildered by the Rig Veda - because most translations make the Rig Veda seem like a bunch of meaningless hymns propitiating deities.

I knew this could NOT be true.

For one thing, the Upanishads and the Puranic texts are all based on the Vedas (there are four Vedas; the fifth being the Mahabharata). So the question remained how did such sublime enlightening metaphysical systems emerge of out of seemingly meaningless ritualistic hymns?

I decided on my own that the Vedas had to be some kind of encoded text that explained the nature of the universe, both visible and invisible. But I still had no evidence beyond my intuition. A recent book entitled, `Vedic Physics' by Dr. Raja Ram Mohan Roy, shed some light on the inscrutable Vedas by posing analogies to the principles of quantum physics.

So --- you can imagine how excited and thrilled I am at holding this new translation, which offers a plethora of insight into the possible real meaning of the RIG Veda.

For example: the MARUTS are traditionally held to be immortal beings who `are a restless, warlike troupe of flashy young men...a society of war-minded men with esoteric practices and formula' - they are the sons of Rudra and the friends of Indra - `riding on the whirl wind, they direct the storm and move with great noise, singing.'

The Shayam Ghose translation of the RIG Veda defines the MARUTS as -

SILENT PARTICLES OF SOUND !

`The...Rishi [Seer]...expounds the attributes of MARUT, the silent particle of sound. He traces the origin of Maruts to Rudra [the god who later became Shiva], the highly concentrate sound that first burst out of the primordial atom... the Rishi [Seer] affirms the existence of such electromagnetic sound particles in space. It is these particles [ether] which, when obstructed by material objects, rattle those and produce vibrations analogous to consciousness.'

Is this not an awesome insight? The Vedic texts have the power to unite human consciousness and modern science to their harmonius timeless traditional relationship with the Cosmos.

Here is another sublime example of a translation from Mr. Shyam Ghose of a very famous RIG Veda hymn, the Gayatri Mantra:

`That eternal flux of Vast Intelligence, which comes as a distributed radiance of light, is indeed worthy of adoration.
May that ever impel our own thinking forward.'

the book describes biological details of both scyphomedusa and stauromedusae, and has a large bibliography. i found it useful in my study on the scyphomedusae as the other book I had been using was published in 1970. Distribution details are not given, however. Good sourcebook for Scyphozoan reserach.

"What do you think?"
Jacob’s apartment building was unbelievable. We were greeted by a doorman that knew Jacob by name and I swooned a little when Jacob knew his and asked about his new baby. The immaculate lobby was lined beautiful works of art, marble statues worthy of any museum and a freaking fountain. A man dressed in a sleek black suit and a gold name tag immediately greeted us and informed me that as the concierge on staff he would be at my ‘beck and call’. He didn’t even bat an eye when I said I was craving some macaroons from clear across town and I had to tell him I was joking when I realized he was actually about to arrange it.
A private keyed elevator shuttled us up to Jacob’s sky rise apartment and even though I’d spent the past month at his villa in Italy and was no stranger to the opulence that came with being Jacob Whitmore, his sun filled loft was truly something to behold.
Beams of light glittered like diamonds, illuminating every square inch. The expansive living room and fireplace were flanked by lush couches, generating a clean, modern feel. The separate dining room could have been pretentious but instead it had a classic lived in ambiance, mixing dark wood and paneling. The library room off the dining room was lined with books and opened up to an amazing terrace that overlooked the bustling city. A floating glass staircase ascended to what I was sure would be even more exquisite furnishings and views.
Jacob stepped up behind me, wrapping me in a warm embrace. His lips pressed against the slope of my neck, uncoiling the deep rooted desire in the heart of me. I turned and looked up at him. Nothing compared to seeing desire in his impossibly blue gaze. Nothing compared to the tingle of knowing the most beautiful man I’d ever seen could look at me like I was the only woman in the world.
I licked my lips, zeroing in on his mouth. I wanted him so bad I could taste it.
"I'm guessing the tour is over.” The side of his mouth quirked upward as he stroked my cheek and brought a single finger to trace my bottom lip.
"Not quite.” I pressed my body into his and felt physical, hardened proof that great minds really do think alike. "I still haven't seen the bedroom."

Great story

I loved this book, I love this whole series. I could not believe Leila's mother, she clearly is living vicariously through her daughter. Even though her mother is lacking in certain areas I do like how she tells Leila she is proud of her and that she is good enough for Jacob. I enjoyed how the author described Jacob's apartment and the sex scene in the bedroom was so hot. I liked how Leila did not want Jacob to promote her again, she wanted to stay his assistant and earn her way to being a PR rep. I hated how Natasha treated her, she is so rude to her all of the time. I actually think it is terrible how almost all of them treat her badly at the office. I love the spankings she gets and him asking her what happens to bad girls. I knew right away that Cade Wallace meant trouble, I thought that Jacob overreacted to what Leila's mother told him regarding a crush Leila had when she was younger but I do not think he overreacted to her not telling him that she went out and got coffee with Cade at a little coffee shop, she is acting weird and it scared me to death that she was going to kiss him. I don't like the direction this storyline is going. Once again she is not mindful of the reporters being around and the pictures that are taken look bad for her. I am worried about the next book, I hope they stay strong as a couple.

Firstly I am so happy and honored Ava wrote more! I simply cannot believe it. Now to the story, I couldn't believe her mother at first, I mean wow. Who does that to your kid? Also I love Jacobs jealously, I love how Leila wants to do things her way and work up to the position. And then Cade comes into the picture as I'm wondering is he there to set her up? Once you read and especially the end you'll wonder why. I don't know why Leila would of even went with him, I hope things work out and I can't imagine her not with Jacob!!! Ugh, now to wait until the next one!!! You kill me Ava, lol.
The story was simply amazing and I cannot wait for more Jacob and Leila!!!!!:-D
Must read all!!!!

Info that I didn't realize I would need

I liked that this book gives details about font settings and gives leads to other software and publishing techniques that a "rookie" like me would have not considered.
Consider how much you know about independent publishing before the purchase, you may be wasting money (by finding out things you already know).
This book impacted me by giving me even more hope that, not only can I get published, but also that it could be better quality.
The only thing I have to compare this book to is the fact that "you can publish through any POD service". I found some of the POD services to be a scam through word of mouth.

Good inspiration

There is some very good inspiration in this little book. There is also some very nice instruction on book construction. I do wish they had spent some time talking about or mentioning some of very good open source graphics apps instead of all the really expensive apps. That would have balanced the book better. But then I guess you can't expect much else from people who are trained in graphic design and tend to be a bit biased. All in all though I would recommend this book as an inspiration tool.

A Marketing Book for the Rest of Us

Tara Swiger has given us a gift.
If you, like me, were not raised in a culture that was (ahem) friendly towards or understanding of the realities of business and marketing, then Tara's book is for you.
Non-icky, completely cognizant of the intricacies of a craft-based business, Tara's book will take you down a path of your own making toward a goal which you define and success which you earned--and she'll do it painlessly and successfully.
Don't be surprised by her casual tone. Her ideas are smart and dead-on and her material is professional. She just happens to be a fun person to sit down and chat with--and that's what you'll feel like you did! Sat down and chatted with Tara to learn all sorts of nifty things about marketing your crafty business.
Enjoyable and edifying all at the same time!

approachable marketing for small businesses

Networking is not easy. For many of us, hearing the words "you just have to market yourself", make us sprint for the shower and soap. We feel like are screaming "look at all I do" and that makes us feel dirty and icky. In this approachable book, Tara Swiger has developed an amazing resource that will help you learn how to market your small business in a comfortable way.

With over 34 worksheets and other helpful tips (such as hints for writing your bio) she helps you to refine your message and use the right tools (both online and off) to bring it to your Right People.

While she has written this guide with an eye to those with crafts businesses- I believe strongly that it is for anyone who needs to figure out how to get the message of who they are and what they offer out and in front of their Right People. I believe this so strongly that I started recommending it to my small business clients before I completed the second chapter ("Your Message")!

Swiger writes in an approachable tone and you could see yourself chatting over coffee to find your sweet spot -- the language of your message and how to get it to your people. She does it with some math anyone can do, which appeals to my geeky heart:

To get you to that sweet spot, we've got to measure equal parts your awesomeness with equal parts Your People. (page 18)

Tara gets it and what's even better is that she shares what she's learned about marketing in a way that isn't overwhelming.

The marketing book I've been looking for

If, like me, you're new to the handmade world, and don't know how to get your beautiful thing to people who'll buy it, you've got to read this book.

Actually, not just read it - write in it. Tara includes worksheets which lead you to your perfect people; the people who want your doodah but just don't know it's out there, waiting for them.

I'm only up to Chapter 3, and already I'm way more clear on why people should love (and buy) my thing, and, more importantly, who those people are. This has taken me just two days, after three months of flailing around on my own.

Tara then takes you step-by-step through the whole marketing journey, turning it into a wonderful exploration of true relationship building with, as she calls them, your Right People.

If you love making things, and want to sell those things to people who will love them (and you), grab a copy now. You won't regret it.
